hello My name is Karel. Don't think too hard about how to pronounce it and you should be golden. I'm 25 and I live with my parents in suburban New Jersey. After three years of living on my own in Brooklyn, New York, it is a welcome relief to be in a quiet neighborhood, under my parents' roof, and have actual storage space in my room. I don't pay rent, but I do pay for gas and groceries and I don't ask them for money. They wouldn't let me, anyway. ;) I'm currently in a 'reboot' phase after the afore-mentioned stint in the city. I'm working in education and figuring out my life's next steps and trying to find time to spend with my boyfriend. Oh, and he lives in New Hampshire. That is 265 miles away from here. :( Oh, and his name is Brian but for the first month I knew him I secretly called him 'Country Mouse.' Here's how we met. I love art, and words, and anything visually or emotionally stirring. I've been doing graphic design for almost nine years and while it's nothing cutting-edge I get by on what I know. I'm a writer at heart, though in the past few years my working life has prevented me from writing much more than my blog. That will change. I am second-generation Taiwanese-American, meaning my parents immigrated here and I was born a U.S. citizen. As I venture into the second half of my twenties I am exposed to an entirely new phase of cultural difficulties of being a second-generation child. It is frustrating, yet at times humorous, and always educational, enriching, and humbling. I went to Haverford College, a small liberal arts college outside of Philadelphia with 1200 undergrad. My four years there shaped my life in a way that I know is unique and endlessly rewarding. I don't love easily, but when I do it is intense and boundless. I have a hard time harnessing my emotions; this can be both good and bad. I'm passionate in my core and believe in more romantic than pragmatic ideals. My rational mind and gut instincts fight constantly, but more often than not the gut triumphs. Everything else there is to know, you can probably get from reading my blog. Start with the 'best of.' Enjoy, and please drop me a line if the mood strikes. [this.is.karel(AT)gmail.com]
